The Nordic Africa Institute has published an internship opportunity for students currently pursuing a master’s course in Economics, Development Studies, Political Science, or a related field and who lives within daily commuting distance of the Nordic Africa Institute in Uppsala.

The intern will work on a project led by Senior Researcher Assem Abu Hatab which aims to investigate the complex relationships between external debt, food security, and broader sustainable development in Africa. The project findings are expected to offer valuable insights to policymakers and practitioners into how debt burdens impact food systems and development trajectories across African countries.

Research interns at the Nordic Africa Institute (NAI) benefit from an interdisciplinary environment that provides valuable insights into specialized subject areas and the experience of working within a research institution. Guided by a project leader, interns will primarily focus on essential tasks related to their project, with opportunities to engage in broader institutional activities. This internship offers a unique chance to contribute to innovative research on key issues affecting Africa’s development, while building practical skills in policy-oriented research, economic analysis, and academic writing.

Duration and location:

The internship is expected to start on January 20th, 2025, and will last for 4 months. It is expected that the successful intern lives locally within daily commuting distance of the Nordic Africa Institute in Uppsala. The intern will be based at the Nordic Africa Institute in Uppsala.
