SLU Global invites researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to a symposium on women’s roles in shaping sustainable and inclusive agricultural value chains. Held in connection with the UN’s International Year of the Woman Farmer 2026, the event will bring together experts from academia and policy to discuss gender equality across agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and ethical trade.
The symposium “Women as Active Agents of Change in Agricultural Value Chains” will take place on 12 June 2026 in Uppsala and online. The programme highlights current research and policy perspectives on women’s contributions to sustainable food systems and equitable value chains across different sectors and regions.
The symposium will bring together researchers and policy experts to share perspectives and foster dialogue on gender equality across agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and ethical trade. Topics include women’s roles in cocoa and fish value chains, narratives in ethical trade campaigns, gender equality in forest-based sectors, and international policy perspectives linked to FAO and global food security initiatives.
Speakers include representatives from SLU, Freie Universität Berlin, and the Embassy of Sweden in Rome, followed by a panel discussion and wrap-up session.
The event will take place from 09:00–12:00 at Ulls hus, sal W, Uppsala, with the possibility to participate online.
