Seminar: Linking Migration and Development –European Experiences and Implications for Sweden

This seminar, co-organised by the European Migration Network (EMN Sweden), Delegation for Migration Studies (Delmi), and Expert Group for Aid Studies (EBA), explores the growing connection between migration policy and development cooperation.
Sweden’s new strategy for global development cooperation in the areas of migration, return, and voluntary remigration (2024–2028) highlights how aid can be used to support migration policy objectives. At the same time, similar policy developments are taking place across Europe.
The seminar draws on insights from the EBA anthology Linking Migration and Development: European Experiences and Policy Lessons for Sweden, which examines how countries such as Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands, and Germany have designed and implemented comparable approaches. Based on these findings and concrete examples, the discussion will address opportunities, limitations, and policy trade-offs, as well as lessons relevant for Sweden.
