The Global Solidarity Levies Task Force is developing options for internationally coordinated levies to help close the finance gap for the 2030 Agenda, the Paris Agreement, and the Global Biodiversity Framework. These options aim to ensure that the most polluting industries and activities that have benefited most from globalisation contribute their fair share. The task force has an open digital consultation on a paper outlining 16 strawman options for potential levies, covering aviation, fossil fuels, carbon pricing, shipping, financial transactions, plastic polymers, cryptocurrencies, and high-net-worth individuals. The consultation closes on 28 February.

CONCORD Sweden and SweDev invite Swedish civil society representatives and researchers for an informal exchange on the options presented in the paper, to stimulate discussion and enable ideas for individual input in the consultation process.

Agenda

  • 10:30-11:00: Presentation of the initiative + Q&A with Tom Evans, Senior associate with the Global Solidarity Levies Task Force
  • 11:00-11:10: Comments from organisers
  • 11:10-11:20: Short break
  • 11:20-12:00: Open discussion based on the following questions: From your perspective, what are the benefits and challenges of the proposed levies? Are you considering taking part in the digital consultation, and on what parts of the proposal would you give input? How can we attract increased attention to the initiative in Sweden?

Register by emailing . Make sure to indicate whether you will participate digitally or in person.

Preparations: We encourage you to read the paper before the meeting.
