Climate-Adapted Development: Perspectives from New Studies (in Swedish)

Date: May 20, 2025
On 20 May 2025, the Expert Group for Aid Studies will be hosting a seminar, in Swedish, titled Climate-Adapted Development: Perspectives from New Studies (in Swedish: Klimatanpassad utveckling: perspektiv från nya studier).
Climate change is a key driver of global poverty, especially in low- and middle-income countries where extreme weather, flooding, and drought severely impact both rural and urban communities. These challenges threaten access to natural resources, sustainable agriculture, urban planning, and public health. To meet the goals of Swedish aid—reducing global poverty—development efforts must account for these risks.
The seminar highlights local consequences of climate change and presents recommendations for those working in Swedish international development cooperation. It draws on insights from recent dissertations that shed light on the contexts in which aid efforts operate.
The Development Dissertation Brief publications focus on the consequences of climate change, with a focus on regions in sub-Saharan Africa. Stagnant Water and Waterborne Diseases: Implications for Children’s Health and Education examines the impact of stagnant water on children’s health and schooling in Tanzania. Climate, Weather Shocks and Cities provides new insights into the relationship between climate change, urbanization, city population growth, and unsustainable urban planning in sub-Saharan Africa.
Please note that the event will only be given in Swedish.
