Students and researchers at universities in Sweden, Finland, Denmark, or Iceland who focus on Africa-related studies can now apply for the Nordic Scholarship Programme, which offers a one-month visit to the Nordic Africa Institue (NAI), in Uppsala. The application deadline is 12 October 2025. 

Nordic Scholarship Programme 

The Nordic Scholarship Programme seeks to strengthen the production of knowledge about Africa while fostering collaboration and connections within and between Nordic research communities.  

What does the scholarship include? 

  • Travel expenses, accommodation and a subsistence allowance. 
  • Access to a workspace in a shared office at the Institute for the one-month state. 

Who can apply? 

  • Master’s students, PhD candidates or postdoctoral researchers in the social sciences or humanities. 
  • Applications can be submitted regardless of citizenship, but one must be affiliated to a university or research centre in Sweden, Finland, Denmark or Iceland. 
  • One must be engaged in Africa–oriented studies/research. 

Selection process 

The recruitment process is managed by a dedicated selection committee formed for this purpose. The committee brings together diverse expertise to ensure broad perspectives. The process follows NAI’s ethical guidelines and is designed to be transparent, equitable, and fair, will full respect for all candidates.
