Power and repression: Russian legislative elections
Date: September 21, 2021
The Stockholm Centre for Eastern European Studies and the book publishing company Atlas are hosting a webinar about the Russian legislative elections. What does the increased domestic repression imply? Kreml has hit the opposition hard in the run-up for the Russian elections on September 19th. Candidates have been denied the opportunity to run, and several independent media houses and organisations have been hit hard by tightened regulations. It is clear that the election results will be manipulated in the favour of the United Russia political party. But what will the voter turnout be? What does the increased domestic repression imply? And what role can the imprisoned opposition Alexei Navalny play in the election?
